Chapter 99. Start Running
WHITE WITCHES’ CAVE
The just risen sun cast its shiny fingers across the sky. Mary lowered Judy’s corpse to her bed as she moved to open the window.
“I just heard what happened.” Daniel walks into Judy’s room. He has been avoiding everyone in the white witches’ cave since his return from Texas. On hearing about Judy’s demise, he came as fast as he could to make sure Mary wasn’t hurt.
“She was a good friend.” Mary wipes a tear. “It should have been me.”
“No, don’t say that.” Daniel approaches. “Come here,” he said spreading his arms open. Wrapping Mary with his arms he continued. “I won’t forgive myself if I see you get hurt. We still have a chance to move to Chicago…”
Mary breaks out of Daniel’s arms. She cast a mean gaze at him. “Is this the best way to console someone mourning a friend?”
“Mary, you have…”
“If you have nothing meaningful to say, then leave!” Mary cuts in sharply not wanting Daniel to finish what he has to say.
