Chapter 102. Unreachable
AT THE INTENSIVE CARE UNIT
Mary walked into the hospital as she made her way to the intensive care. She heard the din: a ventilator honks loudly. An infusion pump emits a high-pitched beep-beep every six seconds. A blood pressure monitor pushes out one long tone after another.
Daniel was sitting beside the bed of his father paying keen attention to him as he lies lifeless struggling with his life. The ventilator acts as bellows to move air in and out of Mr. White’s lungs. His doctor set the ventilator to control how often it pushes air into his lungs and how much air he gets. He was fitted with a mask to get air from the ventilator into his lungs.
“Hey.” Mary walks in with a concerned look on her face. She gave a close gaze at Daniel. He has been there for over three days and has not left his father’s presence.
