Chapter 21

Sofia's POV

The Brook family is broken, everyone in the neighborhood knows it. Some gossip about it, while others ignore the situation. It's probably the best they can do. I went to talk to the man my father mentioned, things turned out better than I expected. He talked to me about the moments of sobriety my father had, and how during those times, he became the man he knew back in high school. I think I got to know my father better listening to that man than living with him. The money he left me is much more than I imagined. It's enough to leave this city, maybe even this country. I could live comfortably for a few months with that money. It's the solution I've been looking for. I'm about to finish university, and I'll have to figure out what to do with the money. I haven't told Mom about it yet.

Right now, I'm not with my parents, nor am I looking at the money my father left me. I'm with Jack, outside my university. It's the last place I would've wanted him to show up,
