Chapter 15

Avery’s POV

Out in the sitting room, I’m twiddling my thumbs after getting off the phone with Sophie. She’s insistent on coming to check on me after the incident, but I told her not to worry and that I just need a few days off to mentally recover. Also, she broke the bad news of the hour to me; Gaius was nowhere to be seen when the police arrived.

I, of course, denied seeing him at all, and thankfully, my claims had already been backed by Nick, who said the criminal asked after me when I went into the bathroom. His best friend and assistant, Ivano, also disappeared, and the police are speculating they were moved away by some of their men on standby.

You mean that one of them is here in my house and we just finished making out after having a discourse?

I don’t know why but I didn’t feel guilty when I was speaking with Sophie. That’s how far gone I am.
