Chapter 52

(Dylan’s POV)

I dread telling Ava about this recent development more than I dread actually going for it. It looks weird, my ex girlfriend being invited over for dinner while my current girlfriend stays home with our child. But when Mom has an idea in her head, come hell or high water, she's going to make sure she gets her way. Maybe that's why she likes Vanessa so much, they're both stubborn like that.

I sigh. It's almost the end of the work day, the time to inform Ava about dinner drawing nearer and nearer. I can't seem to think of what exactly to say that will make it look better than it is. I've thought of not telling her completely, but when the truth comes out eventually it'll hurt more. Best to nip it in the bud as soon as you can.

She waltzes into my office as soon as the bell rings for change of shifts. All those working the night shift should start piling out of common room now, and those that worked the afternoon shifts
