One Thing Is Certain
Kate stared around and returned her gaze on her father to see he was still all smiles. Lucy might have made his day and she argued within herself if there was anything more for her to do and make him happier than he was.
“She must be a good friend of yours,” said Kate, forcing an uneasy chortle.
“You mean Lucy,” Mr. Fanny replied.
She raised a wink.
“She is a good friend and…” he shook his head in contemplation.
She searched into his eyes, peering at him. “And what? I hope it is not what I am thinking.” She cleared her throat jocularly.
“What?’ Mr. Fanny smiled playfully at her, curious at what she was up to with those looks on her face. “She is someone I am coaching, say I am her mentor.”
She widened her gaze at him. “Mentor in jail?” She shook her head in doubt. “All I see here is love, dad.”
He blushed, “Love? Come on, I don’t have time for that now,” he replied, and thought of his wife struck in his head.
