Chapter 3
What she found running toward her home, however, was way too fucking big to be Sneaks.
Adrenaline poured through her in a rush, destroying every effort she’d made to relax. Her free hand flew to her hip, meeting nothing but smooth silk before she remembered she’d left her gun in her workshop.
“Shit!”
Absently tossing the bowl of food on the counter, she raced on soundless feet, running so fast her hair flew behind her and everything became a blur.
Skidding to a stop, she grabbed the gun and pulled the slide back just enough to make sure there was a bullet in the chamber. Seeing there was, she released it and gripped the gun with both hands, the anxiety racing through her easing slightly at the familiar feel of the cool metal in her palms.
Giving her full attention to the monitors, her gaze flitted from screen to screen as she waited for a flash of movement to confirm what she already knew.
She’d fucked up—or at least her power had.
