Lucas didn’t respond right away, but then, he retrieved something from his pocket. When he showed it to me, my eyes widened.

“Use this to buy something for yourself, Scarlett . A new dress or some perfume, it’s up to you,” he said as he handed the bundle of cash into my hand.

“This is a lot of money, Lucas!”

“It’s alright. I don’t have a use for it in the territory. We hunt for food and I don’t need new clothes,” he stated.

I smiled at him, and out of gratitude, I hugged Lucas. It wasn’t a romantic hug but more of a platonic one. He had always been kind to me. I may not be able to love him as much as I loved Asher, but I could treat him as a family.
