Leah’s POV
My heart was heavy, but wasn’t that my usual? Maybe the only difference this time was that it was worse. It was as bad as it could get.
I was behind the steering wheel of the car that I usually used, my eyes on the road as I drove over to where Rafael’s mom was now staying. It was like an hour away.
How did I know? The detective had told me. But now, I had to convince the woman to let me come over even though I was already on my way over to her place.
I was beyond nervous and my only hope was that after this, my life might return back to normal. Well, not my-mom-being-in-my-life-again kind of normal, but a normal where I would be able to breathe a little better.
A kind of normal where I would be able to raise my child with a father who won’t be in prison.
I called the woman as I drove, waiting for her to answer. My heart was thumping in my chest. She didn’t answer on the first ring, and I knew I was getting closer
