Leila’s POV
“Dominic, please… wake up!” My voice had cracked and I held his hand, the coldness of the skin sent a shiver in my heart.
Luca shifted beside me in his chair, his head hung low. “I should’ve been there for him, Leila. I should’ve protected him,” he mumbled, heavy with the weight of guilt lacing his tone.
“It wasn’t your fault,” I said softly, looking at him. “You did everything you could. Robert was a monster.”
“But he was my brother,” Luca shot back, his eyes dark with regret. “I was useless. If I wasn’t so vulnerable, if I had protected myself… he’d not be lying here in this state.”
I leaned over, clasping Luca’s hand in mine, the feel of his skin warmed against mine. “You cannot continue to blame yourself. We all fought so hard to get him back, and we succeeded. We’re all safe, and that is what matters.”
