Chapter 98. Deceit and Desire

Luca’s POV

“You’re tense again.” Jocelyn’s voice slithered into the room like a cold breeze, pulling me from my thoughts. I turned, finding her standing in the doorway, her arms folded across her chest, a knowing smirk pulling her lips. She had that look in her eyes, that look which always meant she was up to something.

“I’m good,” I growled, rubbing my hand over my jaw. But the truth was, I wasn’t.

“Fine?” She laughed lightly and moved another step closer. “You’ve been stalking around here like a lion stuck in a cage. It’s obvious, Luca. You’re distracted.”

I flexed my fists. “What do you want, Jocelyn?”

She cocked her head sideways, the predator grin still smeared on her face. “I’m just here to help you, Luca. You seem bothered.” The voice was even lower as she closed the space between us, stopping right before me. “Couldn’t help but notice the tension between you and Leila. It’s intriguing.”

They ran through me, like a shiver of tension,
