“You can’t keep doing this, Leila.” Luca’s voice cut through the silent tension in the room as he stood over me with his arms crossed, the frustration evident on his face. “I’m tired of sneaking around like we’re ashamed of something.

I looked up at him from where I’d sat down, the weight of his words settling in. I knew this was going to come, but that did nothing to make it any easier on my face.

“Luca, it’s not that simple.”

“It’s that simple,” he returned now pacing, running his hands through his hair frustrated. “You just don’t want to choose. You’re stringing me along and I’m done with it.”

There was venom in his tone, and with an edge of truth to the words that one could not drive away. I had been afraid of choosing to choose between him and Dominic. It was this tangle of emotions which were here, and with each attempt, I tried to untangle them, the more fearsome it seemed to be, larger and more entangled.
