Chapter 104. Am I Interrupting Something?

Leila’s POV

“Dominic, my boy! You are as fit as ever!” boomed the voice of thunder that was Mr. Rossini’s down the hall as he stepped into the mansion, a wide grin spreading across his face as he opened his arms.

I’d stood a little off to the side, just watching this whole scene go down. He was, of course, flanked by Jocelyn, her presence as overbearing as ever, and behind them a few men lugging along some pretty-high-dollar presents: boxes of fine wine, tailored suits, rare cigars. What was no doubt a grand gesture did nothing but heighten the unease settling into my chest.

“Mr. Rossini,” Dominic said, unfolding himself from the couch to greet the older man. He set a firm handshake, his face cordial but a distance away, a welcome warmth that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “You didn’t have to go through all this trouble.”
