Chapter 39. Sick

NUKA

December 21st, xxxx, mid-afternoon

The Alpha is acting strange.

At first Nuka thought the Alpha was just tired. The signs were there: bloodshot eyes, tousled hair, crumbled suit, shitty mood, a magical strength (stubbornness) to keep going and a tapering concentration that rejuvenates the more the Alpha drinks coffee.

He'd been fine in the morning. Happy. Settled after the Captain's visit. But with every stroke of the hour, dark clouds sets above his head and to Nuka's horror, the Alpha starts mixing his whisky with coffee. The only time he saw the Alpha doing that was earlier this year during his Mum's memorial.

For the Alpha to do that... It means something is wrong. What's wrong, Nuka doesn't know. Nuka knows the Alpha's habit well. His secretarial work is efficient because the Alpha is efficient. No room for errors.
