Chapter 60. Stalker
Rae:
The sheets are tangled around my legs.
My skin’s still warm. Tender in places I don’t want to think about yet.
But I don’t open my eyes. Not yet. I just lie there, face buried in the pillow, wrapped in his scent — cedar and fire and something darker that never leaves him. My body aches, slow and satisfied.
And empty.
I reach across the bed.
Cold sheets.

I open my eyes, blinking at the sunlight bleeding through the blinds. Everything is quiet. Too quiet. No footsteps. No rustle of a suit. Not even the sound of him breathing beside me.
I sit up, the silk of the robe sliding across my shoulders as I pull it on. My legs protest. My thighs ache in a way that makes my face flush.
God, the way he—
I bite my lip, shaking my head.
Focus, Rae.
He left without saying goodbye again.
A note sits on the nightstand.
But it’s not his handwriting.
It’s my phone.
