Adeline’s POV

I didn’t know what to say.

I just looked at him, Theodore, and behind him, was Iris.

I didn’t want to compete. Not with her. Not with anyone.

“I... I can’t, Theodore,” I said softly with my trembling voice as I fought back the tears in my eyes.

“No, no… Adeline!!” he called out, his hand reaching for mine, but I took a step back.

I couldn’t let him touch me. Not now.

I turned to face him. “It was all Iris, not me,” I said firmly.
