Chapter 91. The Cake
Adeline’s POV
“Yes... yes...” I said quietly to Ezra. “I’m fine.”
“What you said to Iris... were they true?”
I opened my mouth, but nothing came out at first. I felt a bit embarrassed. I didn’t know how to explain it—not without sounding like the villain of someone else’s story.
“I’m... I’m sorry you had to hear it,” I said softly, with my eyes facing the ground. “I had nothing to do with my sister’s fiancé... not until she left. And that night... we were both drunk.”
Ezra didn’t respond right away. He just stood there, watching me.
“So we’re leaving together tomorrow, right?” he asked.
I gave him a small, half-smile and nodded. “Yes.”
“I’ll be going to the hospital now,” I added quickly, shifting on my feet. “To get some things.”
Without waiting for a reply, I turned and started walking away. I still had thousand thoughts in my head.
Was I making the right choice by leaving home?
