Chapter 2

Kitty's POV

When she reached the 54th stair, she was exhausted and couldn't catch her breath. Her hair was tangled, and her skirt had split on both sides of her thighs. Her lilac pink shirt was dirty from slipping under the guards' legs and was now covered in sweat.

Beads of sweat formed all over her face and neck and were visible under her light shirt. But even after taking a good look at herself, she wasn't ready to back out now. They weren't together anymore, so why would she care if she wasn't dressed for the occasion?

She left the stairway and looked around for any guards but couldn't find any. As fast as the speed of light, she rushed into the opposite room.

She shut the door behind her, closed her eyes, and stood there breathing heavily. When she opened her eyes, she was surprised to see three employees staring at her.

The man standing right in front of her kept a fixed gaze on her. He didn't flinch, only bent his head sideways, looking at the way she gripped the doorknob.

"I think you're going to break it, miss," the man said to her.

She smiled at them and rolled her eyes, as she always did to the Korean employees at the firm. Being an American had made her popular in Korea. Everywhere she went, she was mostly admired, and this contributed to her pride. She had learned to walk like a princess with her head held high.

The Korean employees, who had no idea who she was, were quiet, waiting for her to introduce herself and say what she was there for. But with the way she stood like a boss in her disheveled state, they couldn't help but burst into laughter and spoke Korean, mocking her appearance.

"What did you say?" the woman questioned, glaring at the Korean lady who was seated by the corner, pretending to operate the computer

"naneun hangug-eoleul ihaehanda," Kitty said to them. Which meant she understood Korean.

The two ladies were shocked, but the guy seemed impressed. "What do you want, ma'am?" he asked her.

"I'm here to see Mr. Dante," she requested.

"Do you have an appointment?" he asked her again.

"Well, yes, I do," she gulped her saliva, knowing fully well that was a big lie.

As he picked up the iPad to check for her appointment, she knew nothing was going to be found, and at that same moment, she heard the sound of footsteps approaching the building. She knew quite well the bodyguards were coming for her.

She pushed the guy out of the way and ran through the middle door. As she opened it, she saw the office space empty.

It was the boardroom for meetings. "But it's Monday, why isn't he here?" she questioned herself.

Her boss mostly held meetings at 10 am every Monday, which made her think he would be in the meeting room. Unfortunately for her, he wasn't, and she was trapped.

How would she make it to his office? His office was on the 49th floor of the building.

Suddenly, she heard the voices of the security men from the room she had escaped from. She pushed the chairs in the boardroom against the door so they wouldn't go through.

For a while, she kept pacing around, planning how she would get to the office. It would be a terrible waste that, after all this stress, she doesn't get to meet him. She wasn't ready for that. She was determined.

She opened the window, and her eyes trailed the building down to the last floor. "No, no, there is no way I'm doing that," she kept muttering out loud, fighting the voice in her head, telling her to jump to the window cleaner carrier hanging on the next floor of the building.

"The heck, I'm certainly not doing that," she muttered again.

But when the door burst open, she didn't know which other choice to make. The security men were coming at her. She knew one night in jail was calling at her. If she was going to sleep in jail, at least she should accomplish her mission.

Without thinking too much, she jumped out of the window, aiming at the window cleaner carrier on the 53rd floor. "My God," she screamed. Her heart was terrified; it pounded, and her life flashed through her mind in just that one second.

"No child, no accomplishment, all her life had simply been a waste," she thought, but then in an instant, she felt her butt hit the carrier, and the bucket of dirty water spilled on her face down to her foot.

Her earlier dirty self was cleaner than she looked now. Her hair was all covered in dirty water used to clean the window.

She carefully took out her handkerchief from her bag and wiped her face. At least, that would do. He would be able to identify her.

She kept struggling with the ropes, trying to navigate it to the 49th floor, but it wasn't working. Somehow, it moved down, and it stopped again. She had no idea how she did it.

She kept struggling, and slowly, she was successfully moving downward. And when she got to the 49th floor, her gaze caught him, and at that moment, she glared at him.

Every emotion came rushing; she was gnashing her teeth and biting her lips. She wanted to punch him; that's all she was feeling. Just then, the carrier's rope pulled downwards, which struck her. Was she going to fall?

Her eyes widened, and the people in the office's eyes were fixed, looking at her with their jaws dropped.

And suddenly, the rope pulled with force downwards.

"Arrhhhh!" Kitty kept screaming as the carrier kept falling downwards without stopping. Her heart paused, and in no time, no one could hear her voice again.

People inside the office came out to watch her fall from one of the tallest buildings in Korea.
