Chapter 27. Dance Party
Oliver’s family had all gathered. Beverley became uneasy because her father still hadn’t arrived. Could it be that James wasn’t allowed to leave by his doctor?
She was about to call home, but suddenly the doorbell rang. A servant opened the door. After that, a woman in a red dress stepped in.
“Emma?” Beverley frowned. Why was Emma here? She had even come alone, without James.
Emma, with her glamorous appearance, smiled at everyone. She walked towards the dining table. None of the servants stopped her because they knew she was Beverley’s stepmother.
“Good evening, everyone. I’m sorry I came late. The doctor wouldn’t let James go, so he asked me to cover for him,” Emma said kindly.
Beverley just exhaled softly. She didn’t know if Emma was telling the truth or if it was just her trick to come here alone. Her prejudice against Emma was worse than ever.
