Chapter 68. Desperate Times
Miatta's POV
“Who's there? Show yourself!” the prison guard bellowed, swinging a fire torch left and right. I paused for a second, my hands spread wide apart at my sides until they were touching the walls.
What was I thinking? Going to the prison might implicate me as an accomplice, exempting the possibility of the guard turning me back. Addy was the King's prisoner and was automatically a high class offender.
I still had the time to talk myself out of the foolishness I was about to get into. Maybe Lucas was right. Maybe I did get into matters that were no business of mine.
That's not true. You are friends with Addy and it is not wrong of you to visit her.
I could only hope that the guard thought the same.
“It's just me,” I replied, stepping out of my hiding-place and revealing myself to his line of sight. The torch flickered in my direction and stopped, my shadow stretching out to make up for my loneliness.
