Chapter 80. Everyone Has a Story

Elena's POV.

Nothing made sense to me anymore. I felt like I was trapped in a nightmare from which I couldn't awaken. I wondered if this was my destiny, to die at the arms of someone I loved and trusted.

My mind wandered to Mercy, and I regretted not telling her how much she meant to me. I thought about how she had become my soul sister, my confidante, my partner in crime.

A faint smile crossed my lips as I remembered the good times we shared. I dragged my feet to the corner of the basement, my eyes fixed on nothing in particular.

I bit my lip, fighting back tears. I didn't want to cry, not here, not now. If I did, Derek would worry even more, and he would feel guilty for not being able to protect me.

So I sat there, my hands on my face, alone with my thoughts, trying to find a way to escape, or to survive.

"I'm sorry," Derek's voice broke the silence, and I uncovered my face, gazing at him with a mix of emotions
