Chapter 17

Adelaide's POV

I gave him a nod and shifted the blanket so he could climb into bed. He sat down slowly and remained on his side. I moved over to lie on his chest. He drew me in by putting his arm over my back. 

"You are not going to allow anyone to take me, right?" I asked knowing the answer beforehand. 

"I promise never to let anyone separate you from me. I will always keep you close to my heart. You are mine." I tucked myself deeper into Denzel and dozed off. For now, I knew I was protected. I felt like I was being held when I woke up. I was going to freak out when I opened my eyes and noticed it was Denzel.

I relaxed and drew myself closer to him. I have not had such good sleep since I was way younger. I feel like I got enough sleep and did not have any more nightmares. I raised my gaze to appreciate Denzel's facial features. He appeared to be sleeping soundly, as if he were at ease and cared for nothing.
