I breathed heavily as I jolted back into consciousness. I looked around the room, and it was empty. I felt a sharp pain in my head, then placed my right palm on the area and groaned softly.

“What was that?” I asked in my thoughts.

I got down from the bed, picked up my apron, and walked out of the door to resume my daily chores.

As I stood in front of the door, I saw some other maids coming from my right. They laughed and talked about the matters of the mansion and how hard they'd worked the previous day. I didn't know everyone in the mansion yet, so their faces were new to me.

“Good morning,” I greeted, but they didn't reply. They walked past me like I wasn't there; this was a surprise to me because no maid had ever done it before.
