Seraphina's House
"Did you finish your homework?" I asked when I went outside.
"Yes, Mommy! Look!" Kalix said, his young voice filled with excitement. I joined him on the swing and he proudly showed me his notebook. My eyes widened when I saw his homework – it was about what he wanted to be when he grew up, and he had written "businessman." Tears welled up in my eyes as I saw how much he looked like Cassian. He wanted to follow in his father's footsteps.
I hugged him tightly and kissed his head. He hugged me back and said, "I get a hug because my homework is so good?" I laughed and wiped away my tears before letting go of the hug. "Of course, my little one," I said, playfully squeezing his cheeks. He swatted my hands away, annoyed, and I laughed. "Mommy, what does Daddy do?" Kalix caught me off guard with his question. His questions about Cassian were always hard for me to answer.
