Our destination was none other than one of Canada's renowned and opulent shopping malls. Just five days ago, I had celebrated my engagement, and now the whirlwind of wedding preparations was in full motion. My mother had insisted I accompany her to the mall to select wedding attire, although I couldn't fathom why she needed me there when we could have summoned a designer to our home. Yet, in a phone call dripping with emotional blackmail, she had successfully coerced me into driving her here. It was clear she'd been watching too many of those melodramatic soap operas.
I parked the car at the entrance and left my mother to her shopping mission, promising to join her shortly by "Farah's Desi Boutique."
