Today marks the day after the sangeet and the mehndi function. Unlike the sangeet, which was celebrated with Cassian's family, the mehndi function is exclusively for my side of the family. It marks the beginning of a period during which Cassian and I cannot meet, although it's not like we had frequent interactions to begin with. We'll each have our own separate mehndi ceremonies, with the bride getting her hands and feet adorned with intricate henna designs, a symbol of the impending marriage. Family members, particularly the women, also have their hands decorated with henna.
