“Alpha Edward.”
The voice slithered out of the shadows like a living thing, oily and deliberate. Every muscle in my body tensed instantly. Anaiah and I turned toward the sound in unison, instincts screaming danger. The night seemed to thicken around us, the darkness pressing in with an unnatural weight that made my skin prickle.
A figure stood just beyond the reach of the flickering firelight, cloaked in a heavy robe that concealed his face completely. Yet even without seeing him, I knew—no, I felt—that he was wrong. The stench of death clung to him, old and rotten, as though he had crawled out of a grave and brought it with him. It burned my nose and settled at the back of my throat, making my lycan snarl uneasily.
