Cara's POV

Vlad watched me; I was sure Shade had a smile on his face too. They waited, and I walked towards the girl, bringing the dagger close. The girls begged... I couldn't, so I threw the dagger—not at them, but at the bigger soldier who looked at the little girl with hungry eyes. But of course, the dagger couldn't kill them; it could only injure him, and they would heal up just as fast.

"I'm sorry," I said to Vlad. What have I done? , "I... I just couldn't."
