Chapter 142. Never Alone
Layla’s POV
My head throbbed. Grace was on the ground, bleeding everywhere, and Chloe was on her knees, trembling like a leaf. I couldn’t think clearly but I knew I needed to act fast.
“Chloe,” I said, barely steady even as I felt like I was shaking myself. “Please. Stop. Please, Chloe, just listen to me.”
She didn’t look at me. Her eyes were wild and dry. “You did this,” she said, her voice straining as she stumbled over the words. “You said he would never love me. You told me, and then I—”
“No,” I said quickly, inching closer although the rope hurt my wrists. “I didn’t push you. I never wanted this. Don’t do this, Chloe, please.”
Grace gasped. “Layla, stop!” Her voice was thin, weak, yet still sharp.
Chloe’s hand positioned the gun in a way to make me think she was going to shoot me if I got any closer. “You lied to me,” she said quietly. “You took him. You made him forget about me.”
I reached out, desperate for some way to convince
