Chapter 72. I Am Just Fighting Not to Lose

Orion’s POV

She never turned around.

Not even once.

Layla exited the car, her shoulders squared and chin held high, but I caught the hitch in her breath as her fingers slightly curled, as if bracing herself.

For him.

Ezra.

The man who stood at her door as if it were his own like he had a God-given entitlement to be there.

I gripped the steering wheel with so much force I thought it might snap.

This was not his place.

It will never be.

Before I could talk myself out of it, I opened the door and stepped out.

As I barely registered the sound of my car door slamming, my feet began carrying me forward, stepping relentlessly.

“Why the hell are you here?” I forced out, my voice sharp. It cut through the tense silence.

Ezra didn’t flinch.

Of course, he didn’t.

He instead turned his gaze to me, and some unreadable emotion filled his eyes while he was infuriatingly composed.

“Funny,” he said
