Chapter 86. They Chose the Wrong Man
Ezra’s POV
I was seated at the head of the table in the conference room. My eyes are fixed on the screen as I listen while my head of finance lectures everyone about the project’s growing figures.
I was only half-listening—I already knew the numbers. I had approved them last night. For me, the meeting was just a matter of formality.
Though I knew I wasn’t supposed to be distracted, I felt my jacket pocket buzz and my heart race all at once.
Calls during board meetings were normally ignored unless it was an emergency. But as soon as I glanced at the caller ID, something seemed to twist within my chest.

The last thing I wanted was to answer, having nothing more to say to him. Yet my thumb pressed the button to respond before I could stop myself.
“Orion,” I snapped, not bothering to hide my irritation.
“Please, I need your help,” he said quickly, taut with urgency.
