Max knew that he was more interested in Maya than he was interested in any other woman that was in his life. But, he also knew that being with a woman like Maya was a difficult one sometimes.

And, after his experience with Mary, he decided that it was time for him to give himself the opportunity to explore more opportunities with other women in his life.

"I want us to go on a date," Max informed Mary the next time he saw her.

"What!" Mary was both confused and surprised.

Max's request caught Mary off guard. She looked at him, her eyebrows raised in disbelief. "A date? Max, I thought we were just friends," Mary replied, her tone a mixture of surprise and skepticism.

Max shifted uncomfortably, scratching the back of his neck. "I know, Mary, but I think there's something between us that's worth exploring. You're an amazing person, and I've enjoyed spending time with you."
