Chapter 28
When Max told Mary that their relationship was going to be over, she couldn't believe it. In fact, she thought he was joking.
"I am sorry for wasting your time," Max tried to sound calm, charming, and nice at the same time.
"You are sorry for wasting my time?" Mary looked at Max with angry eyes.
Her heart raced as she tried to process his words. The sun cast long shadows on the park bench where they sat, adding an eerie intensity to the conversation. "Max, this can't be true. What are you talking about?"
Max's gaze fell to his hands, fidgeting with a leaf he had picked up. "Mary, we've been through so much. But lately, I've felt like we're growing apart. I don't want to string you along if my heart isn't fully in this."
