Chapter 35
He continued walking down the street, heading toward his car, and he wondered what he was going to say when he saw her in the morning. He was pretty sure she was lying about how much danger she was in, but what if he was wrong? How would he convince her to stay with him if she thought he'd kill her one day, and he actually meant it?
The thought of losing her terrified him. He had always known he would die someday, but he hadn't realized that the women he loved might also eventually die, too. Before, it seemed like he could always count on them being there, but now he knew that was impossible.
He reached the end of the block and turned the corner, and then he spotted a familiar silhouette standing near the curb, watching him.
"Gemma?" he whispered.
