The night was still as I left the restaurant. The vampire didn’t follow me, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t come after me. The two block walk to my car felt like ages, but I had to hide as much of myself as I could. I couldn’t risk my connection to Jasper being discovered. I had no doubt I could live through whatever Sergio threw my way, but I didn’t want it to have to get to that point to begin with.

As I got to my car a green glow greeted me as my brother shifted in the seat. “You’re late—” He froze, eyes widening. “What in the world are you wearing?”

“I had to wear a disguise. You had to have caught it earlier. I was giving you time to get the job done. Please tell me you at least managed that.”

Siv shrugged. “No, his office was too clean. You wouldn’t even think there was a business being run at all. The Family must take care of it all remotely.” My brother shifted down in his seat. “We can discuss it all back at the mansion. As it is I’ll lea
