Chapter 47
“Mom, let me go! I promise I won’t eat Mom and Papa’s food anymore!” shouted a child, catching the attention of a woman.
The woman seemed unsure of the child’s words and she aligned herself with the child’s height.
“Dawson, look at Mom! Mom didn’t teach you to steal, don’t make it a habit even if you’re hungry because it’s not your right. Understand?” Maria asked, making Dawson reluctantly nod.
Maria then stood up and let Dawson return to his room after she had finished scolding him.
Inside the room, Dawson held his hungry stomach. He didn’t know who else to ask for food besides his mother and father. Meanwhile, Maria never provided him with proper meals.
“Why don’t they love me? What did I do wrong for them to punish me like this?” asked 5-year-old Dawson.
Dawson’s life was in stark contrast to Lukas, who lived comfortably without experiencing hunger like him.
