Chapter 20. Teased from Behind
ISABEL
He pulled my hand suddenly when I made to take a step, and pecked me. The peck was unexpected, but it was also sweet and gentle. I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it, so I simply smiled and continued on my way. But I could feel my heart fluttering in my chest. It was a small gesture, but it reminded me of the connection we shared.
I walked into the house and stopped by the kitchen since I decided to make a fruit juice, something chilly to sip while reading. I entered the kitchen, and the smell of fresh fruit filled my nostrils. I inhaled deeply, letting the scent of oranges, apples, and grapes wash over me. I grabbed a bowl and started filling it with various fruits.
I grabbed a knife and started slicing the fruit, enjoying the soothing rhythm of the task.
The sound of the front door opening jolted me out of my meditative state. I put down the knife and wiped my hands on a towel, wondering who had arrived.
