Chapter 11
I’ve been living in fear ever since that day I confronted Mr. Cosmos about the payment he owed me. The threats came shortly after. He made it clear that he was not going to pay up and that I would be dealt with if I try anything silly.
Every day, I’d find a note slipped under my door or a message left on my phone. “Watch your back, Johnson,” they would say, or “You can’t escape us.” It was enough to make me afraid for my life. My palms sweat. I knew I had involved myself in a bad situation, I had crossed a dangerous line, and now I was paying the price.
Cosmos had his group of goons, and they made sure I was never alone. They’d follow me on my way to work, staring with cold, dark eyes. I could feel their presence behind me, a constant reminder that my life was no longer my own. I lived in fear, my every move monitored, my every word studied.
