It was the same man who approached me, settling into a seat behind me. “Hello, Katie,” he greeted calmly. “I’m Elijah, and I’m a...”
I cut him off, instantly not wanting to hear what he wants to say. “I don’t care. Just tell me why I’m here.”
Elijah sighed softly, as he looked straight into my eyes. “You were dead, Katie. But I resurrected you.”
“Dead!” I muttered slowly and suddenly, I understood the source of the pain in my neck—it was the noose of a hanging, a method of execution in my pack.
My voice trembled as I demanded answers. “Who are you, and why did you bring me back?”
Elijah leaned forward, “I’m a necromancer I practice magic and ancient art, Katie. I possess the knowledge of reviving the departed, the ability to bridge the gap between life and death.”
“Why would you do this?” I asked, my confusion and fear evident.
He met my gaze with sincerity. “Your fate was unjust, Katie. You were condemned for a crime you didn’t commit.”
