Chapter 101. Pregnant
Gladys steps out of the taxi and onto the curb in front of the hospital. She takes a moment to look up at the towering brick building in front of her, with its tall windows and green awnings. The sidewalk is busy with people coming and going, and the air is filled with the sounds of car horns and ambulance sirens.
Gladys begins to make her way toward the hospital entrance, dodging around people. She walks through the automatic doors and into the lobby, people are sitting in chairs, filling out forms, and talking to the receptionists.
The air is filled with the sound of phones ringing, and pages being called over the intercom.
Finally, she reaches the receptionist's desk and explains why she's there. Then, the receptionist directed her to the office of a particular doctor, and she muttered a ' Thank you.
Gladys heads toward the elevator, which is surrounded by a crowd of people waiting to board. After what seems like an eternity, the elevator doors finally open, and
