Dean’s POV

The idea was Marie's, obviously. Most of the good ones were.
"A time capsule," she said, cross-legged on my bedroom floor, digging through a shoebox of junk. "We bury it, and when we're like, thirty, we dig it up, and it's this whole beautiful moment."
"You've been watching movies again."
"I contain multitudes, Dean. Help me pick stuff."
We spent an hour on it. She vetoed almost everything I suggested — too boring, too random — until we'd narrowed it down to a small pile that actually felt like something.
The friendship bracelet went first. Badly made, uneven knots, colors that didn't match. I wore it every day for two months until it fell apart on its own. Nobody made me do that.
"It's ugly," I told her.
"It's handmade. That's different from ugly."
