Chapter 54. A Girl to Rescue

Emma’s POV

"If I disobeyed him, he would make sure I suffered.”

My face fell, understanding the maid’s predicament. I knew the alpha’s reputation for ruthlessness.

“Is there anything else you can do for me, then?” I asked, desperation creeping into my voice.

The maid hesitated before nodding. “I can… I can bring you information, whispers from the pack. Maybe something will come up that can help you.”

My eyes lit up with hope. “That is something, at least. Thank you.”

The maid smiled weakly before curtsying and quickly exiting the room, leaving me to my thoughts and the faint glimmer of hope. At least the maid seemed nice. In fact, I noticed that all the maids who had served me were genuine and delightful. They seemed to only care about satisfying my needs. Of course, they were also obeying the Alpha but something about them seemed genuine.
