Only Him - 36. What Did You Do?

Lisa's POV

The little girl is sitting a few steps from Alex's office and is in the same position she was in before. Poor child! my heart went to her. She doesn't deserve it. 

Walking over to her, I squat down to her level, "You want to go to bed sweetheart?" She looks at me angrily and turned her face away. 

"Sweetheart, what happened? you can tell me." I said with utmost love and care. 

"Don't call me that." she snaps, sitting up against the wall, "You aren't my mom! I don't like anyone other than her calling me sweetheart."

My jaw drops in utter disbelief.

"Sweetie what are you talking about?" I question her.

"You aren't my mom! Only my mommy gets to call me that!" she yells, before turning and running around corner. Great! she hates me already. 

I stay crouching on a couch for a few seconds, the weight of her words settling down on me. Maybe she needs time. I am not her mom as she said.
