Chapter 24
I answered nervously, "Hanging ropes aren't frequently there.”
I felt a sharp rush of terror when I noticed the rope dangling from the tree. Immediately, horrible questions about whether Hans might be harmed by the string raced through my mind. My stepfather could not possibly be that harsh.
"Damn it, Dad, are you sure you're hanging Hans' body from a tree? Bastard, I can't let that happen. I was furious,” I said.
I became increasingly worried as well as more concerned about Hans' fate. Every step we made brought us closer to solving this dreadful riddle, and I noticed that time was passing more slowly.
"I can't let the rope hang. It will torture Hans' body and make me miss my chance," I muttered, moving closer to the hanging rope. "I have to come and deliver Hans to safety.”
