"But lately, it feels like there's something more between us." He took a deep breath, his gaze fixed on mine. 

I felt a surge of hope mixed with apprehension. Could Carter be feeling the same way I did? Was there a chance for us to move beyond the confines of our contract?

"Carter, I've been feeling the same way," I admitted, my voice barely above a whisper. "I never expected to develop genuine feelings for you, but it's becoming harder to deny them."

A flicker of relief crossed Carter's face, followed by a shy smile. "Carla, I'm glad you feel the same," he said, reaching out to take my hand. "But we can't ignore the complexities of our situation. We need to be careful and navigate this with caution."
