Chapter 23
India pressed her hand against her dress, patting it down gently. Aleks came to stand in front of her, his eyes glinting with amusement.
“Why are you nervous? We aren’t seeing anyone special, you know.” She frowned.
“I know that. I guess I’m just nervous. You have no visions, I haven’t had a dream since we came here, but I know that time is coming to an end.”
He grabbed her elbows.
“We’ll get through this together. All of us,” he assured her. Folding their palms, he led her across the room and out the door. They strolled toward the dining room. She had gotten used to the palace.
They met Hilda, and at the door, she nodded toward them. Feeling grateful for his words earlier, she smiled at Hilda, who had thankfully been given free rein around the palace. They had been a few dissenting parties, but most had obeyed the orders Treston had set out.
