“It’s fine, love. It’s just a little delay.” My voice was calm.
“Okay. I didn’t read the rest of it—I just…” She trailed off, her eyes unfocused.
“Come, let’s get you in bed. You need rest.”
She smiled up at me as I lifted her in my arms. Her body relaxed; her face nuzzled the side of my neck.
“You smell wonderful,” she drawled.
I chuckled at how quickly sleep had started creeping in.
“You always do.”
Indeed, her scent was always amazing to the nose—soft, intoxicating, and clean.
Laying her gently on the bed, I whispered goodnight and walked slowly out of the room.
“Thank you… for helping her,” I heard her say as I shut the door.
The fact that Sebastian could not make it in time worried me. Taking my phone out of my pocket, I played his voice message.
“I am sorry; there’s something about turbulence and rerouting…” For a moment he paused, taking deep breaths. “I’m really sorry.”
