Chapter 45. Standing Up to Gene

I throw the paper plane I made at Reece, and he gives me an irritated glare. We have been sitting in Eli’s room for a little over an hour waiting for him to return. We are all anxious to hear if Rose is all right. Having not been able to see her for a couple of days is driving all of us a bit crazy.
This afternoon, we decided to race in the woods, just to clear our heads. Mark, of course, but that was just because some dust got into my eyes and blinded me just a little bit. I would have beaten him otherwise. The other men actually thought I was crying because I lost and refused to believe that some dust particles had lodged in my eyeballs.
Reece picks up my paper plane and throws it back at me. I don’t anticipate the force and speed it comes at me with, and the sharp edge of the paper pokes at my eye. Was the Moon Goddess trying to blind me today? I wipe my eye. “Damn it, Reece.” He laughs, but I don’t think it’s funny.
