Chapter 129. Is That a Bad Thing?

“Shh,” he whispered, “don’t worry. Everything will be alright.”

It took me a few seconds to realize that Jake was talking to me, and a couple more to register the meaning behind his words. I pulled away slightly and looked up at him, seeing the concern and relief in his eyes.

I managed a weak smile in response. “Thank you,” I said softly.

Jake nodded and kissed my forehead gently before we fell into a comfortable silence. After a while, he started driving back toward his house. I tugged lightly at his hand to get his attention.

“So… what are we going to do today?” I asked hesitantly. I knew that asking about plans would make him drive faster, and I wasn’t a fan of speeding down the highway.

He grinned mischievously at me and winked. “I was hoping you could give me an answer to that.”

I playfully rolled my eyes and hit his arm. He laughed and rubbed his arm as he drove. “Sorry, babe. Guess you’ll just have to wait and see.”
