Chapter 41. Complicated

I watched him as he continued to eat his cereal and occasionally throw his spoonfuls of cereal in his mouth, without a care in the world about what kind of mess he might have made.

Every once in a while I would watch towards the TV, hoping that he would finish eating his cereal so that we could go get breakfast together.

As he was about to finish his bowl, he suddenly stood up and walked past me towards the dining table and put the rest of his bowl in the dishwasher before grabbing mine and placing it in the sink to wash later. I grabbed my bowl from him and walked into the kitchen to start washing up afterward.

As I was washing up, I heard the front door open and close, followed by footsteps moving up the stairs and eventually down the hallway and into the kitchen. Ethan was standing in the kitchen doorway, staring at me.
